Since 2016
Matthew N. Seifert is an Ohio attorney whose practice focuses on real estate, business law, and estate planning. Since his admission to the Ohio bar in 2016, Matthew has built a reputation for providing practical, client-centered legal guidance to individuals, families, and small to mid-sized businesses.
Matthew began his legal career with Johnson Oliver & Howard in Portsmouth, Ohio, where he gained extensive experience handling all aspects of real estate transactions, from contract negotiation through closing. He also worked closely with the firm’s in-house title agency, managing hundreds of residential and commercial closings, and advising clients on title, ownership, and financing matters. In addition, he regularly assisted clients with business formation, transactional matters, and comprehensive estate planning.
His background also includes work in business law and entrepreneurial advising. As a Legal Fellow with the University of Cincinnati Entrepreneurship Clinic and The Brandery, Matthew counseled startup companies on legal, business, and tax considerations, helping founders navigate complex issues involving governance, contracts, and growth strategy.
Matthew earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where he received the Tyler Short Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence and was actively involved in trial advocacy, legal scholarship, and student leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Emory University.
Matthew is deeply engaged in community and economic development initiatives throughout Southern Ohio. He has served on the advisory board of the Kricker Innovation Hub at Shawnee State University since 2018, is a member and current President of the Portsmouth STEM Academy Board (serving since 2018), and is an original co-founder of Friends of Portsmouth, a nonprofit organization focused on community revitalization and engagement.
In 2025, Matthew was honored as the ECDI Women’s Business Centers of Central Appalachia Partner of the Year, recognizing his ongoing work supporting small businesses and fostering regional economic growth.
